New York City based pianist, Nelson Ojeda Valdés, has been a soloist with the Pacific Symphony, Southeast Symphony, California State University Wind Ensemble, and the Lloyd Rodgers’ Diverse Instrument Ensemble. His performances include solo and chamber recitals at the Yamaha Resort (Shima, Japan), Yon Sei University (Seoul, South Korea), Esterhazy Palace (Eisenstadt, Austria), Círculo Bellas Artes (Madrid, Spain), Ateneo de Madrid (Spain), Fundación Juan March (Madrid), Fundación Canal (Madrid), Conde Duque (Madrid), Steinway Society of Puerto Rico, Symphony Space (NYC), The DiMenna Center for Classical Music (NYC), David Dubal’s “World of Piano” at the Juilliard School (NYC), Dr. Lisa Yui’s “Lives of the Piano” at Manhattan School of Music (NYC), Meng Concert Hall (Fullerton, CA), University of California Riverside’s Department of Hispanic Studies, and Segerstrom Center for the Arts (Costa Mesa, CA). Mr. Ojeda has also been active in new music premiering works by David Meckler and Tom Lidell at the Voces Novae New Music Festival (Fullerton, CA), works by Carlos Carrillo and Desmar Guevara at Pregones (Bronx, NY), Movimiento de Arte y Cultura (San José, CA), and Su Teatro (Denver, CO), works by José Greco at the Queens New Music Festival (Queens, NY), “A Dream within a Dream” by Francisco Otero written for him and soprano Lynette Carveth on a tour of New York and California, Janet Emmons’s “Requiem for Gaia’s Children” at the New York Society for Ethical Culture (NYSEC), “barcode; Music for Two Pianos” by Frederick Lesemann written for him and Susan Svrcek at Pasadena Conservatory (Pasadena, CA), and a performance of Paul Jared Newman’s “Por la noche me llaman” at Ballet Hispanico (New York, NY) at a memorial concert for the composer. Mr. Ojeda’s performances in Piano Spheres (Los Angeles, CA) includes participation in a complete performance of Olivier Messiaen’s Catalogue d’oiseaux playing “Le merle bleu” (Book One, No. 3), a memorial concert for Susan Svrcek and Rick Lesemann at Zipper Hall (The Colburn School), and the two piano version of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring with Susan Svrcek at REDCAT. Performances at Klavierhaus (NYC) that are available for view on YouTube include a program with the Park Slope Woodwind Quintet and a program of Philip Glass, John Adams, and Steve Reich’s Six Pianos with pianists Adam Sherkin, Christopher Bradshaw, Steven Long, Lisa Yui, and Anthony de Mare. Upcoming concerts include a program of the music of Gabriel Fauré featuring soprano Stefanie Izzo, violinist Kelsey Philbrick, and pianist Christopher Bradshaw. Ojeda Valdés holds degrees from California State University Fullerton and Manhattan School of Music with additional studies at the Juilliard School and Mannes School of Music. His primary teachers have been Martha Ojeda (his mom), Lei Kuwada, Earle Voorhies, Susan Svrcek, and Constance Keene. Mr. Ojeda teaches privately and is the founder and director of the National Piano Associates.
